Speculative Project
Buffalo. 2010

This speculative community-shared production and presentation center in Buffalo, contains wood and metal-shops, studios, video editing facilities, and music practice and recording rooms in addition to several flexible gallery and auditorium spaces. These spaces are both divided and united by a large oblique surface that oscillates between raked-stage to its low-rise context of big-box stores and developer detached housing and raked seating for witnessing the pleasures of urban choreography. Elevation and plan mingle in addition to these conditions of performance and witness. The surface is purposefully bereft of meaningful indicators of specific use, and supports occupation by pedestrians as well as motorists. Operating between the scale of the big-boxes and housing, a series of objects rest in various positions on this folded surface, some occupiable, some simply containing mechanisms of display.
