Revisioning Eyebeam

This project is a revision of Diller Scofidio+ Renfro’s competition-winning proposal for the Eyebeam. A change of site to a pier in the Hudson River Park one block away creates the possibility for a horizontally extensive building – emphasizing contingency, chance, and the meander over iconic resolution. Three-layers are laminated, then intertwined – one creating studio space for artists in residence, the second the space of the museum proper, and third, an unprogrammed park-scape contiguous with the larger “green” infrastructure. A slice though any floor level contains fragments of each of these publics, and creates the conditions for the condensation of new ones through the friction of interface
